We’ve been there in the past: For 40 years, food banks have been dedicated to helping Canadians living with food insecurity. Across Canada, over 3,000 food banks and community agencies come together to serve our most vulnerable neighbours. Since 2010, as a system, we’ve sourced and shared almost 1.5 billion pounds of food and Food Banks Canada shared over $100 million in funding to help maximize collective impact and strengthen local capacity.
We’re there for you now: In March 2020, Canada was blindsided by the COVID-19 virus. Food banks and food security agencies from coast to coast to coast quickly adapted to the pandemic by changing and innovating, all while keeping health guidelines in mind. From home delivery to socially distanced and car pickup, we provided record amounts of food to clients, helped reach the most remote areas and improved our infrastructure to ensure quality and safety to our neighbours in need.
We will continue to be there: Our friends and community members who are experiencing food insecurity can count on us, not only to be there in emergency situations, but to work towards a country where food banks are no longer needed. Through advocacy for policy change, government relations and research to change the situation in the future. Our vision is clear – a Canada where no one goes hungry.
